Toddlers often bite, hit, or push because they can’t express big feelings like anger or frustration with words yet. They might also be tired, hungry, curious about the reaction, or seeking attention.
To handle it, stay calm and comfort the child who was hurt first. Then, tell your toddler, “No hitting,” and briefly remove them from the situation. Proactively, you can teach them words for their feelings, create a “calm-down corner,” and praise them when they’re gentle.
